Trees are vital to our ecosystem. We need them to survive. They also play a big role in combating climate change:
- Trees and Biodiversity: Trees provide animals with habitats and food sources. Healthy and diverse ecosystems are known to be more resilient to climate change impacts such as disease outbreaks and extreme weather.
- Trees as Carbon Sinks: Trees are nature’s most efficient carbon sinks. They absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis and release oxygen back into the air.
- Trees in Water Cycle Regulation: Trees are an important part of the water cycle. Trees release water vapor into the atmosphere which contributes to cloud formation and precipitation. They also enhance soil quality and water retention which helps to reduce the risk of floods and droughts.
