Every homeowner faces the dilemma of: should I remove or trim the tree? Making the wrong choice could lead to some costly expenses. Here are some tips for helping you to make the right decision:

  • Assess the Tree’s Health: The first step is to check whether your tree is healthy. Your tree may need to be removed if it has dead branches, fungus at the base, cracks in the trunk, and/or root damage. If most of the tree is unhealthy, you should remove the tree.
  • Evaluate the Tree’s Risk Factor: Trees can pose many risks, especially during storms such as branches falling. You should look to see if any branches could fall and injure someone, if there’s any structural weaknesses, and if it blocks visibility on the streets. If you notice any of these things, you should remove the tree.
  • Consider Long-Term Maintenance: Trimming may be ideal for healthy trees that only need occasional maintenance. For example, if a tree needs a lot of trimming, removal of the tree may be more cost-effective.
